As of 13th May 2014, the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 made amendments to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. The Act made two key amendments, firstly that the law is now extended to encompass dangerous dogs in private as well as public places; secondly that the law extends to provisions to cases where injury is caused to assistance dogs (whether or not any person is injured).
West Yorkshire Police has 47 Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) which are Inspector led and made up of Sergeants, Constables and Police Community Support Officers.  A total of 1722 Police Officers and Police Community Support officers are performing this valuable role.
The West Yorkshire Police Dog Section consists of a range of dogs of varying breeds and roles. We range from General-purpose police dogs through to a range of specialist search dogs.

Monday January 30, 2023 Danger drivers, drugs criminals and wanted offenders have been taken to task in Kirklees as part of a national week of action to celebrate neighbourhood policing.  
Police Response When notified of an incident relating to an attack on an assistance dog, we will record the victim of the crime as ‘vulnerable’ in line with the National Victims Code of Practice.

T/Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Baker joined West Yorkshire Police in July 2002 and was initially posted to Kirklees where she worked in departments ranging from neighbourhoods, to roads policing, to crime as a PC and Sergeant.

Drugs are linked to violence, child criminal exploitation, Child Sexual Exploitation, Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, Firearms, and other areas of Serious and Organised Crime.
Tuesday 31 January 2023 Police are deploying canine cops to the streets of Huddersfield in an operation to sniff out drug offending in bars and clubs.

Friday 7th July 2023 On Saturday 1st July 2023, officers from East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Teams executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act on Wykebeck Street, Leeds as part of a continuing operation to address the production and supply of drugs.
Officers from the Burmantofts and Richmond Hill Neighbourhood continue to target and address the local community and policing priorities set across the ward area, to address reports of urban street gangs and organised criminal groups involved in serious and organised crime and drugs supply.
