Stop It Now Campaign

Viewing and sharing indecent images of children online is a serious and growing problem. The National Crime Agency estimates that around 80,000 people in the UK are regularly committing these crimes, posing a huge problem for police forces across the country.

As well as committing to investigating and prosecuting offenders, West Yorkshire Police has embarked on a new partnership to deter people from committing offences, and to stop if they’re already doing it.

We’ve teamed up with The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, the only UK-wide charity dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse, plus organisations across the region. As part of the Stop It Now! campaign, we will work with other partners to spread the message that viewing indecent images of children online is a serious crime, and that we are on the case.

We’ll also get the word out that there is help available for people who want to change their behaviour if they’ve already started. This is through the Stop It Now! helpline, where people can get confidential and anonymous help and advice to stop viewing the images, and through a self-help website

It’s this two-pronged attack that we hope will tackle the problem – by cutting off both the supply and the demand.
