Enjoy Summer Safely
With restrictions easing and the Euro 2020 tournament kicking off, West Yorkshire Police has launched a new campaign to encourage people to enjoy the summer safely.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of crimes such as domestic abuse, drink driving, one punch manslaughter and sexual assault which can increase at this time of year; and give advice on how to keep yourself and others safe on a night out.
We don’t want to stop anyone's fun, just make sure that everyone looks out for themselves and each other, and makes Summer 2021 one to remember for all the right reasons.
Domestic Abuse During Euro 2020
We know that domestic abuse often increases during major football tournaments, especially on the days that England play.
If you are worried about your own behaviour, there’s time to change and help is available for everyone. If you're worried about your own behaviour click here for help and advice.
There is no excuse for domestic abuse.
If you are suffering domestic abuse, or are worried that your partner may be violent or abusive we are here to help. If you're worried your partner may be violent or abusive - click here for more information.
Always dial 999 in an emergency.
If you’re planning to go out to a pub or restaurant and will be drinking alcohol, make sure you’ve planned how you’re getting home. Also remember, you could still be over the limit the next day.
Drinking and driving could cost you your life, your job, your licence or your car. Click here for more drink/drug driving information.
One Punch Manslaughter
One punch could ruin more than just your Summer.
Getting in a drunken fight could end in prison for manslaughter. One punch can kill.
Buying someone a drink, sharing a taxi or having a dance with someone isn’t a crime, but rape is.
Both men and women can be the victims of sexual assault.
Consent is needed from both parties.
Safe Nights Out
If you’re going on a night out with friends, have a great time, but look out for yourself and each other.
Stay together, never leave drinks unattended and only used licenced taxis.
